A property agent was charged in court on Thursday with abusing two domestic maids employed at her household. Wong Pui Kwan, 27, faces six charges of causing hurt to two maids, three of using criminal force and two each of committing a rash act and insulting modesty.

She allegedly slapped the 28-year-old Filipino maid, threw a frying pan towards her head and pulled her hair at her flat in Sengkang sometime in October 2011.

The following month, she is accused, among other things, of caning the victim several times on the body and back, splashing cooking oil on her hair, using a plastic tub to hit her head twice and hurling a chair which landed on the victim's thigh.

Twice on Dec 5 that year, she allegedly insulted the maid's modesty by pulling down her shorts and panties. Wong is also accused of slapping another maid in November 2011 and kicking her buttocks on Dec 4 the same year.

Her case will be mentioned on Aug 1. If convicted of maid abuse, she could be jailed for up to three years and/or fined up to $7,500 on each charge.

For committing a rash act to endanger life, the maximum penalty is one year's jail and a $5,000 fine.
